That startling growth metric comes from Edison Research in its latest Weekly Insight feature, taken from Edison’s ongoing Share of Ear research project.
The listening-growth statistic comes from combining two measurements:
- Number of people listening to podcasts daily
- How much time they spend listening
Here are the numbers within the percentage growth:
- 2016: 167M hours per week of podcast listening
- 2026: 812M hours per week of podcast listening
Those metrics represent a 386% increase in weekly podcast listening.
