French music streaming and download service Qobuz has added an AI detection system to its service, intending to keep non-human music creations out of its platform.
It’s a proprietary system, which analyzes the content of the existing Qobuz catalog, in addition to incoming new releases.
The initiative is more about identification than it is about prevention, and apparently works as an all-or-none identifier. Tracks identified as 100% AI-generated will be labeled with visible tags across all Qobuz apps.
Qubuz Deputy CEO has spoken of “hyperinflation” of AI content.
Ensuring quality and authenticity are clearly two goals here. There is also the goal of protecting artist revenue by preventing inauthentic music from siphoning royalties away from humans. Identity is likewise an issue, as many AI streams fraudulently impersonate real musicians.
