In the latest monthly statistical sheet at Listen Notes (HERE), we see a dramatic 12% drop in new podcast creation in February, compared to January. In an annual cycle perhaps representing a new-year resolution trend, the February total was 12,852 launches, compared to 18,863 in January — as illustrated below.
In the chart above, the February total is revealed to be not only a sharp monthly downturn, but a full 13-month low point. Even so, it represents nearly 13,000 new shows added to the existing global catalog.
ANd if the rate of new-pod production (podprod?) is dipping, it is barely a glitch in the total podcast domain (podomain?) — Podcasst Index counts 4,644,779 in total. Of thatarguably misleading number, only 485,000 were published within 90 days, and 95,000 within three days.
