Jon Stewart enters the podcast-first realm

Comedian and political satirist Jon Stewart will extend his relationship at Comedy Central with a new weekly podcast: The Weekly Show With Jon Stewart. The program compliments his iconic The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. The announcement comes from MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Audio. The announcement was made in a pre-recorded segment in yesterday’s IAB Podcast Upfront.

“After much reflection, meditation, and prayer, I have decided to extend my work week to two days,” he intoned.

The Daily Show franchise is, of course, a daily production, which Stewart now hosts once a week. Stewart’s return to that show lifted its ratings to the highest level since 2015. The new show starts in June. Production is handled by Paramount Audio in association with Busboy Productions. It will enjoy full RSS distribution everywhere.

“Jon’s return to The Daily Show has been a runaway success – a powerful reminder of why he’s the voice of our generation and so critical to the national conversation,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Office of the CEO and President/CEO, SHOWTIME & MTV Entertainment Studios. “This new podcast enables Jon to delve even deeper into complex issues and make sense of it for all for us through his razor-sharp wit and indelible humor.”
