YouTube (Alphabet) exceeds Q2 expectations for ad revenue

The key number in YouTube’s Q2 earning report is 11 billion. More exactly, $11.055 in advertising revenue, and it is a 13% year-over-year increase. Wall Street is cheery about it, having expected to hear $10.8 billion. We are seeing the word “shattered” this morning.

YouTube is wholly owned by Alphabet.

Looking back a year, to Q2 2025, YuTube grossed $9.79 billion in ad revenue. All this pertains only to ad sales, and does not include YouTube’s subscription revenue, where YouTube Music lives.

While these results reflect all inputs, at least one coverage event stands out: the World Cup soccer (football) tournament. YouTube served 550 million World Cup viewers (according to Music Business Worldwide).
