Pono Music completed a wildly successful Kickstarter funding campaign, raising nearly eight times the $800,000 goal. Neil Young’s fledgling company promises an ecosystem (download store plus specialized mobile player) for high-fidelity music. The premise is that portable music files (MP3 and other formats) is highly compressed for quick downloading, cutting out many of the sonic qualities that make modern recordings great.
