On the Move: Grainge staying at UMG; another Tidal departure

On the Move tracks hires, promotions, and other notable personnel changes in the audio industry.

Grainge will stay CEO for five more years: Universal Music Group will keep current CEO Lucian Grainge at least until 2020. “This plan will enable the company to maintain its profitable growth and continue to play a leading role in the transformation of the music industry,” parent company Vivendi said in a statement. Grainge has been at the head of UMG since 2011.

Another Tidal departure: According to inside sources, Tidal’s senior vice president of label relations, Zena Burns, departed the company in June. Her position has been assumed by Timothy Patrick Riley, who joins Tidal from the role of global head of music at Activision/Blizzard. This is the latest in a series of personnel changes at the boutique streaming service, including the departure of interim CEO Peter Tonstad in the same month.
