December podcast production drops 28% to 12-month low (Listen Notes)

In the 12-month measurement at Listen Notes (HERE), new podcast production took a sizable step downward (28%) in December 2025 compared to November of last year. Further, the November measurement represents the lowest podcast production of the 12-month period.

The graph below charts the 12-month shape of new podcasts:

A macro view is found in the count of new podcasts launched per year, going back to 2012. (See the chart below). We observe the Covid-era elevation of content, followed by a return to normal.

Just over 200,000 new podcasts were introduced in 2025.

Listen Notes also produces an “AI Fake Podcasts Removed” chart. We see that about 4,200 fakes were removed from the Listen Notes database — they continue to be published, of course. That is a slight decline from the previous month, but fakery remains generally high, as seen below.
