Aurous hit with temporary restraining order after two days

We covered the alpha launch of Aurous, a streaming service that has already attracted the ire of music labels on charges that it infringes on their copyrights. Just days after its debut, the site has been issued an order by a U.S. District Court judge to temporarily suspend distribution, marking an initial win for Universal, Warner, and Sony.

Aurous founder Andrew Sampson said that he would ignore any cease-and-desist letters focused on individual tracks, but it’s unclear how strong a case he would have against the labels’ claims of copyright infringement. After the news of the restraining order, Aurous’ official Twitter account posted, “Our legal team is actively working to secure our place in the music eco system. Rest assured we want to be around a long time.” However, as of the wee hours of the morning, Aurous’ downloads were indeed suspended until further notice.
