Top UK podcasts (Edison Research): yearly and quarterly comparisons

Edison Research is out today with its Top 25 Podcasts in the UK ranker. Edison’s research is derived from listener surveys, not download counts, and therefore includes podcasts which do not appear on other rankers which lack access to some hosting platforms. The Joe Rogan Experience — one of the world’s most successful shows — is a good example, appearing as #1 in Edison’s list.

The source list is HERE. Below, RAIN’s representation includes colored call-outs to podcasts making their debuts in Q3 2024 (year-0ver-year comparison) and Q4 2024 (month-over-month comparison).

Putting aside our perspective, Edison offers two observations. First, regarding ranking movement in the top end:

“Goalhanger dominates and secures three of the Top 5 spots, with The Rest Is Politics (#2), The Rest Is History (#4) and The Rest Is Football (#5). The Rest Is History breaks into the Top 5 for the first time. Making its debut in the Top 10, The Archers secures the #10 spot.”

 

And, Edison notes two newcomers:

 

“BBC’s Americast climbs six spots to #24, likely driven by coverage of the U.S. presidential election and the transition to a Trump White House. Stick to Football enters the list, gaining momentum at #25.”

 

The ranking survey is fielded at least four times a year to a minimum of 2,000 weekly podcast listeners in the UK.
