Spotify has announced what is, by our count, the third Sound Up program of podcast creation mentoring. This time the field is Kids & Family shows that will compete.
At stake is what the company describes as “an immersive week of in-person training at our Spotify offices in Los Angeles, to be followed by a series of virtual workshops and classes, and finally production of a podcast pilot episode.”
It is both a content and a training program that focuses on the art of podcast creation, from initial ideation to storytelling, interviewing, editing, and producing. The program will be facilitated by Sound Up’s longtime partner and collaborator Rekha Murthy, an independent podcast strategist, along with Dawn J. Fraser, professional storyteller, and communications coach.
U.S,-residing podcasters are eligible, if they fulfill these requirements:
- live in the United States
- be 18 years or older (or the age of majority in your state or country of residence)
- identify as a BIPOC creator (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)
- be legally and physically able to participate in the Program, and, to be able to travel to and participate in the Program (as -outlined in the terms and conditions)
Along with those basic requirement, Spotify will favor applicants with these characteristics:
- Gender – women, trans, intersex, nonbinary
- Religion
- Neurodivergence
- Differently-abled
- Socioeconomic background – creators from low-income backgrounds will be prioritized
- All ages welcome, whether you’re fresh out of school or on your third career
From these criteria, 10 participants will be selected. Applications are accepted HERE through April 8.
