ROK Mobile includes streaming music service in unlimited mobile bundle

ROK Mobile announced new developments in its available phone plans for music fans. The company is offering a bundle with unlimited talk, text, data, and streaming music for $49.99 a month. The streaming music component is called simply ROK Music and it has a library of 20 million songs. It has most of the standard features of a mobile music platform; listeners can create radio stations, customize playlists, and discover songs by mood or genre. ROK Music will also be ad-free, according to the press release.

Mobile providers have been seeking out tie-ups with entertainment brands, with a particular focus on music services, as a way to attract more customers. These deals often grant free access to a premium streaming platform for a few months (although Spotify has a Canadian telecom deal giving away two years of free Premium). Another strategy is the one pursued by ROK, to have an in-house service. AT&T/Cricket had that with Muve Music, which was purchased by Deezer at the start of the year.
