RAIN Notes: April 14

Is radio still viable?

It’s not us asking; it’s Jacobs Media. The audio consultancy firm will present the results of TechSurvey 2026, the annual nationwide survey of radio listening which polls 31,000 core radio listeners. Longtime followers of this work are promised new topics (though annual topics of this essential project are perennially interesting). In addition to listening behavior, TechSurvey 2026 explores new questions about YouTube use, short-form videos, concert attendance, use of in-car dashboard audio tech, and preferred podcast services. Continuing trends that will be represented include media device ownership/usage by generations, gender, and format. The presentation is set for April 23, 11am ET and is sponsored by software company Quu, a software-and-services company which makes visual radio displays for car dashboards. Register HERE

Circular

Michael Mignano announces that he has joined Union Square Ventures (USV) as a General Partner. It’s a full-circle move, inasmuch as Mignano pitched USV for funding when he was building the startup Anchor, which he eventually sold to Spotify in 2019 and which evolved into Spotify’s bedrock podcast platform. Mignano did not receive the hoped-for USV investment, as he reminisces HERE, but his respect for the company has lasted. Union Square Ventures is a New York-based firm, as one might gather by its name, specializing in early-stage internet companies.

At the top

Audio executive and startup founder Cathy Csukas has been named to the prestigious 100 Women to KNOW in America list for 2026. The program is founded by global media company The KNOW Women, a community for female leaders. Csukas will receive her official recognition at a dinner/gala for all 2026 honorees tonight, April 14. Csukas is recognized as co-founder and CEO of AdLarge and the fwd. network. Her work is known for recognizing underrepresented voices in audio and podcasting. She is recognized in the Ad Sales Superstars section. Not her first time on the acceptance stage, in 2024 Csukas was honored  by media news brand Cynopsis in its 2024 Top Women in Media presentation.

All the hats

Morgan Wiedmann has joined SoundStack as Marketing Director, departing her previous role with Corsa, a programmatic audio marketplace, where she was a Director. Until recently she was Marketing & Production Manager for The Body Pod podcast. In an earlier phase, Wiedmann held leadership positions at Triton Digital for nearly four years. She credits Soundstack CMO Scott Klass for making the shift possible. “I’m looking forward to wearing all the marketing hats,” she enthuses, and expects her work to focus on demand generation, events, content, and strategic marketing initiatives.
