Pioneer unveils update supporting Apple CarPlay

Pioneer launched a firmware update that includes support for Apple CarPlay in five of its NEX systems. Using CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later model running at least iOS 7.1 Pioneer first announced these plans to integrate CarPlay in April.

MacRumors reported that two other rivals to Pioneer, Alpine and Clarion, are expected to include support for CarPlay soon. This support from other system manufacturers could help Apple to make an appearance in more car models. The tech company already has arrangements with Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, GM, Honda, Mazda, Audi, and more. This means CarPlay has the potential to close out 2014 with an impressive footprint.
