Google Play debuts original podcast

Google Play is the latest digital music platform to hop on the bandwagon of original podcasts. The show is called City Soundtracks. Each of the short episodes features an interview with a musician about the impact of their hometown on their work. The episodes are also paired with playlists curated by those performers. Podcast veteran Hrishikesh Hirway hosts, and the initial episodes bring Spoon, Big Freedia, and Kehlani into conversation.

Podcasts rolled out on the Google platform last spring. Several other streaming services, including heavy-hitters Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio, have made similar moves to incorporate audio content alongside their music.
