Beats Music updates: Taking to the air with Southwest, Trent Reznor still on board

Forget connected cars, Apple is now taking Beats Music to a connected airplane. The tech company announced a partnership with Southwest Airlines to make a library of hundreds of playlists available for free on WiFi-enabled aircraft. Travelers will also have access to The Sentence, Beats’ automated feature that creates a playlist based on your location, current activity, surroundings, and music tastes.

Also in Beats Music news, Trent Reznor discussed the streaming service in an interview with Billboard. The Nine Inch Nails frontman was the chief creative officer at Beats prior to the acquisition, but has been mostly quiet on his involvement since Apple entered the scene. In the interview, Reznor revealed that he is involved with new projects at Apple related to that creative post he held at Beats. He did not disclose his exact focus, but noted that it is in the realm of music delivery. “I feel like I’m in a unique position where I could be of benefit to them,” Reznor said. “It’s exciting to me, and I think it could have a big enough impact that it’s worth the effort.”
