RAIN Notes: July 8

PMDMC -> PMGC

A well known conference focused on public media revenue generation, marketing, and management has changed its name and branding. The Public Media Development and Marketing Conference, founded in 1992 as an annual gathering for revenue, marketing, and management professionals, has rebranded as Public Media Growth Conference (PMGC). The event attracts more than a thousand public media professionals and focuses on strategies for membership growth, fundraising and audience development. The next event starts today, running through the 10th in Chicago. (It is sold out.)

iHeartPodcasts is partnering with media star Chelsea Handler to launch a new comedy and advice podcast entity called Dear Chelsea Network. It’s a multi-year arrangement which elevates Handler’s digital community into a dedicated platform. It will be a new home for Handler’s well known Dear Chelsea property. The arrangement makes Handler the executive producer of shows that will be brought onboard. The first of those, and flagship podcast for the new network, is You’re the Problem, hosted by comedian Yamaneika Saunders. It premiered July 15.

Volvo Cars has announced a deep partnership with Apple Music, integrating the audio app into more than two million cars. Some of those integrations will also continue to support the Spatial Audio hi-rez software. The feature will be built into 11 Volvo models. The first deliveries will happen this summer. Car owners will be offered a no-charge three-month trial. “You’ll feel as if you’re right in the middle of a concert hall or an arena during your favourite live performance,  — a truly emotional listening experience,” said a Volvo executive in what could sound like a warning to other drivers. The collaboration is the latest in an ongoing relationship of the two companies; they signed a native integration pact last year.
