Wendy’s markets to “elder EMO” listeners with commissioned playlist

Quick-serve restaurant Wendy’s has created a streaming playlist of songs for listening in the car while, um, dining out. (At Wendy’s.) It is not streamed from the restaurant, which disappoints us, but it is a free playlist to put in Spotify when you eat out. (Again, at Wendy’s.)

It’s a six-track EMO collection — emotional as heck, with powerful backbeats, is our musicological assessment. Wendy’s collaborated with producer Rise Records and producer Matt Squire.

The titles by themselves are worth visiting the playlist:

• She said She didn’t Want Fries
• Salt in the Wound
• The BestCombo Meal on the Worst Night of my life (our favorite)
• I Miss the Sunroom
• It’s Not a Phase, It’s a 10pc
• My Frosty’s Funeral (wait, that’s our favorite)

The lyrics are fabulously faux-serious:

“You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone / Frosty cup is empty and I’m barely hanging on.”
