It is Sony behind the money — a $7.4 million donation to New York University. That grant will establish the Sony Audio Institute at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human development.
In coverage by the New York Times, we learn that the new institute will not be a physical space, but an interdisciplinary program studying advances in audio technology. New studio space will be created, and equipped (fairly enough) with Sony gear.
All of this gets folded into Steinhardt — not as a degree program, bu as an NYU fixture providing internships and scholarships.
