Indian streaming service Saavn released audience data, revealing that it has 11 million monthly active users. According to CEO and co-founder Rishi Malhotra, Saavn had 30 million people use the service in 2014. He didn’t give a specific number of paying customers, but said that Pro subscriber numbers had increased 6x last year. The platform is now approaching 200 million streams a month. Malhotra said 70% of Saavn streaming occurs within India, and a whopping 90% happens on mobile devices.
Saavn also announced that it has hired Mahesh Narayanan as its new COO. Narayanan has experience as a former executive at Google India and with multiple startups. He’ll be stepping in to lead operations in a busy time for India’s streaming market, as Rdio became the first international streaming brand to launch domestically.
