The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act which would stop car makers from removing AM reception from new vehicles, is inching along its laborious path to ratification. A floor vote in the House of Representatives has been scheduled for mid-September. It will be a standalone vote, meaning that the vehicle act is not bundled with any other prospective legislation in the vote. A floor vote means all participating lawmakers put their vote on the record.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise is leading this legislative effort.
The bill enjoys strong favorability, with more than 300 co-sponsors in the House, and over 60 in the Senate. If passed, the law would require the Department of Transportation to enforce and manage compliance among car makers.
