AI platform sued by music group for using their songs as training material

It had to happen. Instrumental group The American Dollar has brought suit against AI music platform Suno, alleging that the AI company used their songs as training material for Suno’s AI music-creation models. The music group is represented by Poseidon Wave Media, a music rights management company.

The 32-page official filing is HERE, thanks to Music Business Worldwide.

The lawsuit encompasses 236 recordings and compositions which are covered by 164 copyright registrations. The complaint asserts that the band’s licensing revenue has dropped by 80%. The composers operate a successful and productive licensing business, with a client list that includes Warner Brothers, Activision, Apple, Sony, PBS, MLB Network, and others.

In a bitterly ironic statement, the band asserts: “(The) defendant utilized plaintiff’s decades of work to destroy the very market plaintiff has developed.”
