A Google Win

Google has supplanted Apple as the world’s most valuable brand, in the just-released report from global market research company KANTAR. That evaluation ends Apple’s four-year hold on the top ranking. One view of Google’s takeover credits integrating its AI product Gemini into its various products. Another view might interpret KANTAR’s choice as a recognition of Google’s “high-frequency utility,” which could tilt award considerations toward software and away from hardware.

Here is what KANTAR says about the award’s chief criterion: “The ability of the brand to deliver value to the company by predisposing consumers to choose the brand over others or pay more for it, based purely on perceptions and their implications for future performance.”

Google last won the top position in 2018. This new ranking can broadly be interpreted as a recognition of AI’s importance, and Google’s initiatives integrating AI into its products, e.g. Gemini.
