Whole Foods might follow Starbucks in eliminating CD sales

Whole Foods logo canvasCDs are having a tough time of it on the sales charts, and some retailers seem to be throwing in the towel. Starbucks announced last month that it will no longer have discs for sale at its counters. Grocery chain Whole Foods may be considering the same move. A source told Digital Music News that the stores have seen less interest in CDs as impulse buys.

Not all non-music retailers which sell CDs have lost hope, though. “Target has absolutely no plans to stop selling music in our stores or on Target.com,” a spokesperson for the big box retailer said. The company said it will be following the IFPI’s new Friday global release date despite some speculation that it would cease those sales entirely.
