TuneCore CEO to step down in April

TuneCore CEO Scott Ackerman will exit the digital distributor on April 15. He has been at the helm of TuneCore since 2012, and spent the two years prior as its chief operating officer. Ackerman will stay with the company as a strategic advisor. Parent company Believe Group, which acquired TuneCore in 2015, said it is searching for Ackerman’s replacement.

TuneCore is part of a cadre of businesses focused on serving independent artists in the digital economy. Indie artists are representing a growing share of the global music market, thanks to the wide range of do-it-yourself tools available to break through to audiences. Data from MIDiA Research recently found that independent labels and indie artist direct revenue generated a combined $7 billion in 2019, nearly a third of the global total.
