Tidal’s one-year birthday present: 3 million subscribers

Tidal black canvasTidal is celebrating its first full year today. Since its relaunch after acquisition by hip-hop legend Jay-Z, Tidal has secured 3 million subscribers. Its library now numbers nearly 40 million songs, including high-quality audio tracks and several exclusives.

It chalked up some other impressive accomplishments in its first year, such as the launch of exclusive video content and successful charity concerts. The company also shared some of the numbers from its most recent exclusive album launches. Rihanna’s ANTI saw 1.4 million downloads in less than 24 hours, while Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo was streamed 250 million times in its first ten days.

The past 12 months have been marked by regular mishaps and jabs from the music industry for Tidal, but the company has persevered. Given its string of successes, and the solid growth for its paying membership ranks, it seems that the tide may be turning for this streaming music upstart.
