Strategy Analytics sees 30.3 million smart speaker sales in Q2

Smart speaker sales continue to soar around the globe. Strategy Analytics found that unit sales nearly doubled from the second quarter of 2018 to reach 30.3 million in the second quarter of 2019.

Amazon had the largest share with 21.9%, down from the 29.1% it held in Q2 2018. Google had the second-largest share at 18.5%, followed by a trio of China-based brands. Baidu, Alibaba, and Xiaomi have been serving a growing Chinese market for smart speakers and their shares of the market clustered below Google’s. Although Apple posted an 81% spike in shipment volumes, it still placed sixth with a 4.7% share.

Strategy Analytics projected that all of 2019 would see 148.8 million shipments, raising its previous estimate of 147.7 million.
