Spotify amps up hiring efforts in Japan

Spotify logo new color canvasSpotify has been building momentum for a push into Japan, and the increasing number of job postings for the nation may indicate that the company is nearing a launch date. The streaming company currently lists 12 open jobs for its office in Tokyo. The posts are for business development, business operations, finance, marketing and PR, product development and sales departments. The company has not commented on its Japanese plans.

Streaming has seen slow growth in the country that has long favored CDs over digital outlets. Subscription streaming increased 43% during the first half of 2015, but the industry only accounted for 3% of the country’s overall music industry for that period. Google Play Music and Amazon Prime Music brought their online offerings to the market late last year, and Spotify has been hiring for Japan-based positions at least since October.
