Sonos integrates audiobooks from Libby library app

Sonos is making some content additions in recent months. On the back of the launch for its Sonos Radio, the speaker company announced an integration with OverDrive’s Libby app. This program helps libraries connect with patrons, giving them access to audiobooks and ebooks on their own devices. With the new deal, Sonos can play audiobooks from the Libby app.

Libby requires a valid library card, but otherwise the service is free to use. It’s an option for on-demand audiobooks at no cost to the listener. According to OverDrive, Libby works with 90% of the public libraries in North America. The integration will roll out to all Sonos wireless home sound systems.

“This new Sonos compatibility is our latest response to how librarians are evolving to best promote and provide access to books and reading anytime, anywhere,” said Shannon Lichty, OverDrive’s vice president of partner services. “Our partnership with Sonos for public library audiobooks will enable millions of households to enjoy the sounds and narration of a great story anywhere a Sonos speaker is connected.”
