Snapchat adds music to videos

Snapchat logo canvasSnapchat has been making big waves in the field of social media, most recently getting valued at a staggering $19 billion. Today, it introduced the ability to add music to your videos. The update lets people have music playing from iTunes, Spotify, and SoundCloud on their phones and then appear in their Snaps.

This new feature does have some potential crossover into music licensing issues. Granted, the videos you shoot in Snapchat are just a few seconds long and will disappear from the sender and receiver’s phones. But use in any social media platform is an unexpected new angle that will possibly be addressed in future licensing deals.

So far, the update appears to only be available on iOS phones, but will likely be added to the Android version too.
