Sirius XM adds more than 100 new channels for subscribers

Sirius XM announced a new content expansion for its subscribers. The satellite radio company introduced more than 100 curated, commercial-free streaming music channels available exclusively to Sirius XM All Access and Sirius XM Premier Streaming subscribers, as well as listeners on free trials. The Xtra Channels have programming centered on moods, occasions, activities, decades, and genres. They offer a skip-ahead feature and are available on the Sirius XM app, web player, and certain connected devices. A preview of some channels will be available through March on Sirius XM radios in vehicles.

This addition is described by the company as “the largest addition ever to its content lineup,” and appears to be facilitated by Sirius’s acquisition of Pandora. A month ago, the company’s CEO Jim Meyers laid out strategic bullet points derived from the synthesis of Pandora and Sirius.

“With more than 100 new commercial-free channels to choose from, SiriusXM is offering even more variety for our subscribers,” said Steve Blatter, Sirius XM’s senior vice president and general manager for music programming. “The new channels have the DNA of current SiriusXM channels that our subscribers love, but offered in a variety of new versions that fit listeners’ tastes, moods and activities. We have also developed channels that satisfy the demand for combining SiriusXM channels together into exciting new curated experiences. These new channels are sure to make our streaming service even more attractive and valuable to our listeners.”
