Rhapsody audio cards bring full-song streaming to Twitter

IMG_0876Rhapsody launched a new feature today called Rhapsody audio cards that allows more than 30 million songs to be embedded and heard in full on Twitter. The new development is designed to allow listening to its catalog without ever leaving the social media app.

A Rhapsody subscription is not required to listen to tweeted tracks, or to reshare those tweets containing audio cards on the social network. Only registered users will be able to tweet tunes from within Rhapsody, however. Subscribers should see a blue Twitter symbol in the Rhapsody platform, which sends out a tweet with one click.

The streaming service is promoting the new feature through collaborations with performers, such as Pearl Jam and Wiz Khalifa. These artists tweeted out Rhapsody audio card songs today. The initial launch of the audio cards is only on mobile platforms; the feature is not enabled yet on web browsers.

The launch coincides with the start of the SXSW Music Festival. Some of the artistsĀ helping to promote the feature are performing at the event.
