Quick Hits: Two SXSW stories; St. Patty’s Day podcasts

Brief news items and worthy reads from around the web:

Podcast round-up from SXSW: SXSW Interactive hosted several panels and discussions about podcasting. Silicon Hills News published a round-up of the talks, which took a positive outlook on the sector. Industry leaders such as Sarah Van Mosel, chief podcast sales and strategy officer at Market Enginuity, and Matt Leiber, podcast host and co-founder/president of Gimlet Media, weighed in on podcasting, audience-building, and advertising.

Zane Lowe not the biggest fan of playlists: In another missive from Austin, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe gave a keynote at SXSW. “There are no stories to be told on a playlist alone,” he said. “Artists want their music to inspire and catch fire and to mean something.” Unsurprisingly, Beats 1 head Lowe is more favorable toward radio for the ability to convey an artist’s story and create conversations around music.
