Brief news items and worthy reads from around the web:

What streaming should borrow from radio: Inspired by Apple’s recent hire of BBC’s Zane Lowe, Chris Price of New Slang Media wrote a guest column for MusicAlly with a thorough explanation of lessons that streaming platforms could learn from terrestrial radio. It’s an excellent review of why radio has endured as a powerful form of communication and entertainment.

SoundCloud demographic infographic: GlobalWebIndex compiled results from a survey of SoundCloud users into a handy infographic. Not only did one in 10 adults online use the service last month, but the data showed strong interest among SoundCloud’s members in music subscriptions and in generally paying for their music listening.

SXSW hosts hackathon: SXSW will be hosting its second annual music hackathon next month. The goal of this session is to create new tech innovations for the music field in just 24 hours. The winner will take home bragging rights and a $10,000 prize.
