Quick Hits: Serial’s new schedule; public radio and podcasting; One Direction’s tour revenue

Brief news items and worthy reads from around the web:

A new schedule for Serial: After its much-anticipated debut last month, Serial is making a schedule change. The true crime podcast is moving to a biweekly schedule rather than continuing to release episodes every week. “This story goes in so many directions, and as we’re reporting it we’re getting access to more of the key people close to Bergdahl’s case, and to more information than we initially thought we would,” host Sarah Koenig said. “Which means we’re going to be adding at least one extra episode to the series. To do that – or at least to do it right – will take some time.”

In-depth with WNYC’s plans for podcasting: Columbia Journalism Review wrote about the big moves WNYC has taken into podcasting. The New York public radio organization has been one of the leaders in rethinking how audio programming might look in a digital world. The CJR piece is a long read, but a great insight into what’s happening at WNYC.

Tour revenue analysis for One Direction: RAIN News readers may not usually be too keyed in to the happenings of teen heartthrob ensemble One Direction. But Music Business Worldwide took an interesting dive into comparing the numbers behind the group’s massive tour and its recorded music revenue that’s worth a read. The more than 2.36 million tickets sold last year shows just how dominant the live show angle is for today’s performers, even ones with the cult following of 1D.
