Brief news items and worthy reads from around the web:

Movies and podcasts and why they don’t work: Just about every industry seems intrigued by the podcasting boom. AdWeek took a dive into Hollywood, exploring past efforts to add an audio angle to how studios promote the visual medium and why they have largely been a flop. Probably the most insightful piece you’ll read about Paris Hilton today.

Another opinion on exclusive releases: We’ve seen lots of feedback and opinions on exclusive music releases from the industry perspective. The latest ones come from within, but highlight the potential frustration of the strategy for listeners and fans. Metro Boomin is a producer known for his work with Kanye West, Future and Travi$ Scott. In a series of tweets, he bemoaned the difficulties in trying to listen to work by Tidal owner Jay-Z. “Shouldn’t have to have subscriptions to 2 different services just to listen to blueprint and views. Makes me miss how simple CDs were,” he said, citing gated albums by Jay-Z and Drake.
