PRX develops partnerships for new podcasts based on women’s suffrage

PRX is partnering with the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (created by Congress) and the National Park Service, and a cast of celebrities, to create new podcasts inspired by the suffragists throughout U.S. history who have worked to secure women’s right to vote. PRX notes that 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment.

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” –19th Amendment

Here are the prospective shows and their stars:

  • Rosario Dawson and Retta will co-host And Nothing Less: The Untold Stories of Women’s Fight for the Vote, presenting stories of generations of activists who fought for full access to the ballot. They will be joined by a range of guests, including award-winning historians and authors, as well as Ida B. Wells’ great granddaughter.
  • Aly Raisman will host The Magic Sash, a time-travel historical fiction podcast for tweens featuring iconic heroes of the movement for women’s right to vote.

The podcasts will be free, and will launch August 5.

In support of this project, the National Park Service will create companion materials for each podcast, available free alongside each new episode. The guides will also include lesson plans for elementary and middle school teachers to support their use of the podcasts in the classroom.
