Podtrac released its monthly Top Podcast Publishers ranking for november. The company noted that global unique streams and downloads decreased for the Top 10 publishers by 10% from October and increased by 40% over November 2019. This makes sense, as the long Thanksgiving weekend might disrupt podcast listening routines, while the overall category growth over a year made November a growth story over that longer time frame.
That said, nine of the Top 20 publishers saw an increase in US monthly Audience in November over October, and three Top 20 publishers saw positive growth in their Global Download numbers from October to November.
iHeartRadio came landed in the #1 slot for November, with 244-million streams/downloads across 500 active shows. NPR was #2, with 214-million streams/downloads across 48 shows. The large catalog disparity, in which iHeartRadio operates ten times as many podcasts as NPR does, illustrates different strategies of two powerhouse podcast networks.
