Podcasts get a critical treatment from L.A. Review of Books

The Los Angeles Review of Books has launched a new channel called Podcast Review. The site includes both reviews of podcasts and interviews with podcasters. Only three interviews have been posted so far, but they promise compelling insights from the minds behind the audio.

The review side has already tackled shows from well-known podcast platforms such as Slate and Gimlet Media. There is some technical discussion of the shows, why they work well or which episodes to skip, but the Podcast Review seems more like a curation service than a formal review. And, given the explosion of new shows in the past few years, that’s not a bad thing. It’s also a further sign of how well entrenched podcasts are becoming in popular culture that established media outlets are now treating them as meriting a critical eye.
