Pod Drop: New shows from Dr. Phil, ESPN, and iHeartRadio

Pod Drop highlights noteworthy new and upcoming podcasts from across the vast and fast-growing category.

Phil in the Blanks: Here’s the latest television star to make the leap to audio. Dr. Phil McGraw is partnering with Stitcher to launch a new podcast called Phil in the Blanks. The program is scheduled to premiere on January 8 and will feature McGraw in conversation with celebrities and industry leaders about their journeys to success. His deal with Stitcher will also see the creation and launch of three additional podcasts over the course of 2019. All of McGraw’s podcasts will be available on a range of platforms including Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Spotify.

South Beach Sessions: Dan Le Batard, a host on ESPN Radio, is turning his talents to podcasting. His new program is titled South Beach Sessions and will have interviews with people from the worlds of sports, entertainment, and music. A preview episode of South Beach Sessions will air on December 18 before the show begins its regular weekly schedule starting on January 8.

Invention: iHeartRadio continues to expand its original podcast roster at a break-neck pace. Today the company announced a new program called Invention. As the title suggests, the show will share the stories and inner workings of some of the most impactful breakthroughs. Robert Lamb and Joe McCormick will host the show; both worked at HowStuffWorks on the Stuff to Blow Your Mind science podcast. Episodes are available on iHeartRadio.
