On the move: Big departures from SoundCloud, Deezer

On the Move tracks hires, promotions, and other notable personnel changes within the online audio industry.

Stephen Bryan is leaving his role as SoundCloud’s chief content officer. He spent three years in this role and helped lay the groundwork for the addition of SoundCloud’s paid subscription tiers. Bryan’s final day with SoundCloud is June 30, and the company said it does not have an immediate replacement for the role. “Stephen’s ability to negotiate favorable deals for SoundCloud with key industry players was instrumental in getting us to where we are today, and we wish him the best,” CEO and Co-founder Alex Ljung said.

Deezer also saw a long-time leader exit. Vice President of Music Rights and Label Relations Julien Simon is departing after nine years with the music company. He played a part in bringing Deezer to the U.S. and in launching the brand’s ad-supported and subscription options. “From the beginning, even if not everyone was convinced about it, we knew that streaming services would play an important role in the music business,” Simon said in an email to the team. “It has been a real pleasure for the last nine years to work with all of you, and to be part of this amazing adventure.”
