On the Move: 7digital and Universal Music Group

On the Move tracks hires, promotions, and other notable personnel changes within the online audio industry.

7digital has hired Edward Kershaw as its new chief commercial officer. Kershaw’s resume includes work at Nielsen, Virgin, Decca, and Vodafone. He takes over the post from Pete Downton, who has been promoted to a new deputy CEO position. Simon Cole will remain the top exec for the company. “It’s a pleasure to be joining 7digital at such an exciting time in the company’s development,” Kershaw said. “With an impressive roster of existing clients and a pipeline full of prospects who are looking to build innovative and scalable digital music platforms, there is significant opportunity for growth.”

Universal Music Group has created a new position dubbed executive vice president of content strategy and operations. Barak Moffitt has been promoted into this expanded position, where he will be tasked with maximizing revenue and finding new commercial opportunities for audio-visual content. “In his new role, Barak will coordinate and fully monetize these assets for our artists and labels across our company, as well as help create short and long-form videos, documentaries, behind-the-scenes features and many other exciting forms of audio-visual content for fans to enjoy around the world,” CFO and Executive Vice President Boyd Muir said.
