No, Spotify did not pay $230M for Gimlet and Anchor. It was much more.

Spotify has filed a 20-F with the SEC — that is a format for filing an annual report by companies of non-U.S. ownership. (Here it is.)

In this one, if you grind all the way down to the very bottom, you’ll see a note:

“Subsequent to year-end, the Group entered into agreements to acquire Gimlet Media Inc. and Anchor FM Inc. for purchase consideration totaling approximately €300 million, primarily in cash, subject to closing adjustments.”

Three-hundred million Euros converts to about 339-million U.S. dollars. At the time of the acquisition announcement, Spotify stated its intent to invest a potential $500-million more in podcast acquisitions.

The 20-F form contains valuable information about Spotify’s year-over-year financial results, royalty payment reporting, and much more.
