Netflix exec joins Spotify board

spotify logo March2016 canvas Spotify has added a Netflix executive to its board of directors. Ted Sarandos is chief content officer for the video streaming platform, and his expertise could be helpful for Spotify in looking to further expand its own video properties. Sarandos is responsible for negotiating Netflix’s deals with movie studios and TV networks, as well as playing a central role in the company’s creation of original content.

The video ventures to date for Spotify include an educational music history series, a show featuring NFL players, and a Metallica documentary. It also has added a hub for clips from other content providers. The streaming service first announced the video plans more than a year ago, but its leaders have not shared any numbers about how well the addition has been performing.
