Lore is the latest podcast to hit the small screen

We’ve been profiling a trend over recent months of the film and television industry of finding new source material in podcasts. The latest project in this vein to hit the airwaves, or at least your fiber optic cables, is Amazon Prime Video’s Lore. The show is based on a podcast of the same name by Aaron Mahnke featuring real-life stories of horror, witchcraft, and medical malpractice.

The Verge’s advance review of the first three episodes praises the TV adaptation for its ability to retain, and even amplify, the spooky nature of the original podcast. Showrunner Glen Morgan has taken a slightly different narrative approach than Mahnke that’s more akin to The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits. Finding the most effective ways to translate podcasts’ topics, and their highly engaged audiences, into visual media will be critically important as more visual storytellers find their inspiration in audio content.
