Kickstarter relaunches Drip subscription service

Kickstarter has relaunched the subscription service Drip. The crowdfunding site acquired Drip in March 2016, saving the platform from shutting down. In its original form, Drip allowed fans to subscribe to individual performers. Under Kickstarter’s umbrella, the subscriptions will still be for individuals, but more than musicians can participate. This system is more similar to Patreon, offering ongoing financial support from fans rather than a one-time influx of funds to support a particular project.

Drip is currently invite-only, but both podcasters and musicians are among the first wave of established creators in the program. According to its blog post, Kickstarter plans to open Drip to more creatives early in 2018.
