Google smart speakers expected to launch in India, with Saavn, Gaana supported

Google is joining the music and tech industries’ push into India, with the Google Home and Google Home Mini smart speakers expected to become available in the country, possibly later this month. When they do arrive, they’ll have support for two popular local streaming services. A Reddit user noticed that Google lists both Saavn and Gaana as supported music services for India.

Gaana now boasts 50 million monthly active users in India. Saavn recently announced a deal to merge with the music platform JioMusic from Indian telecom Reliance Jio. Streaming has been gaining traction in the local music market, accounting for half of the country’s music market in 2016.

Amazon already has its Echo line available in India, and it recently rolled out its Prime Music service.
