Billboard adding charts for songwriters and producers

Billboard announced an expansion to its chart offerings. The company is launching new charts for Top Songwriters and for Top Producers. These rankings will be based on weekly activity from several of Billboard’s “hot” charts, with placements based on points accumulated for each attributed song appearing on those other charts. They will debut later this month.

“We’re extremely excited to acknowledge the top creative forces behind music’s biggest hits on a weekly basis,” says Silvio Pietroluongo, senior vice president of charts and data development at Billboard. “A songwriter or producer’s influence and importance within the industry and beyond certainly merits recognition beyond our yearly rankings.”

Charts are getting extra industry attention this spring. Rolling Stone shared plans to launch its own charts powered by BuzzAngle Music.
