Austria will get first DAB+ multiplex in 2018

Austria is getting its first DAB+ multiplex next year. RTG Radio Technikum has secured a 10-year license taking effect April 3, 2018. The project will involve 11 radio programs, an electronic program guide, and a hazard warning service in greater Vienna if needed. KommAustria, the country’s media authority, is working with other nations’ experts to complete more extensive frequency coordination that would lead to nationwide DAB+ coverage.

Several European countries are at various stages of the DAB and DAB+ spectrum. For instance, Norway recently took another step in making its complete transition to digital radio broadcasting. The UK has also reported steadily growing DAB set ownership in its RAJAR results. Other nations, such as Austria and Bulgaria, are earlier in the stages of DAB+ adoption.
