Amazon launches portable Echo model, but only in India

Amazon has developed several smart speaker iterations for its Echo line of devices. The latest is a battery-powered, portable option that is rolling out in India. The Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition can play up to 10 hours of continuous music or can last up to 11 hours on stand-by. It will retail for 5,999 rupees ($84) and will start shipping later this month.

“Portability has been one of the most requested features in India,” said Miriam Daniel, VP of Alexa Devices. “You want to be able to carry Alexa with you from room to room within your homes. So we have designed something just for you.”

Although Amazon has not disclosed any sales figures for Echo in India, the company has made many investments in the market. It added Alexa support for Hindi in September, and launched its Prime Music streaming service in India in February 2018.
